The leaders of the G20 met in New Delhi, and their declaration gave the world a tremendous boost by uniting disparate nations on a common platform.
On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared that the New Delhi Leaders Summit Declaration had been agreed upon. Speaking at the second session of the Summit at the Bharat Mandapam, Modi remarked, “I have just received the good news that due to the diligent work of our teams and your cooperation, a consensus has been reached on the New Delhi G20 Leaders Summit Declaration.”
“It is my proposal that this G20 declaration be adopted,” the prime minister said. After the approval of the members, Modi declared that it had been adopted.
The declaration’s 12 commitments will aid in tackling issues including climate change and financial fragility. India has prioritised multilateralism and providing the global south a voice in order to increase the democratic nature of decision-making. One of its components is bringing Africa into the G20.
The 12 commitments are as follows:
- Accelerate full and effective implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
- Promote resilient growth by urgently & effectively addressing debt vulnerabilities in developing countries.
- Accelerate strong, sustainable, balanced, and inclusive growth.
- Pursue low-GHG/low-carbon emissions, climate-resilient and environmentally sustainable development
- Improve access to medical countermeasures and measures to prepare better for future health emergencies.
- Scale up financing from all sources to accelerate progress on SDGs.
- Improve access to digital services and digital public infrastructure.
- Accelerate efforts and enhance resources towards achieving the Paris Agreement, including its temperature goal.
- Reforms for better bigger and more effective multilateral development.
- Close Gender Gaps and promote full, equal, effective, and meaningful participation of women in the economy as decision-makers.
- Promote Sustainability, Quality, Health, Safe and Gainful Employment.
- Better integrate the perspectives of developing countries in global decision-making.
