Govt Aims for Dialogue Solution: Arjun Munda on Farmer Talks

“Union Minister Arjun Munda Remains Hopeful After Stalemate in Farmer-Government Talks”

Following inconclusive discussions between farmer union leaders and the government, Union Minister Arjun Munda expressed optimism for a breakthrough, emphasizing the government’s commitment to resolving disputes through dialogue.

Addressing reporters after the talks, Munda highlighted that while a breakthrough wasn’t achieved, progress was made on several contentious issues. He reiterated the government’s dedication to engaging with stakeholders and finding solutions through dialogue, suggesting the formation of committees to address unresolved matters.

Asserting the government’s commitment to safeguarding farmers’ rights, Munda expressed confidence in reaching a resolution soon.

Ahead of the planned ‘Delhi Chalo’ protest, government representatives engaged in fresh talks with farmer leaders in Chandigarh. Agriculture Minister Munda, along with Piyush Goyal, represented the Centre in the discussions.

Despite the talks, farmer union leaders affirmed their intent to proceed with the march towards Delhi, citing unmet demands including a separate law for Minimum Support Price (MSP) and a debt waiver. A day ahead of the ‘Delhi Chalo’ protest by farmers over a raft of demands that include a separate law for MSP, the withdrawal of police cases against them during previous protests and a debt waiver, a government delegation on Monday held fresh talks with them in Chandigarh amid the measures announced by the Haryana and Punjab governments to ensure law and order.

Kisan Mazdoor Morcha coordinator Sarwan Singh Pandher stated that the protest would continue until the government presents proposals beneficial to farmers.

Meanwhile, heightened security measures have been implemented in anticipation of the march towards Delhi, with Delhi Police banning public meetings and restricting the entry of tractors and trolleys at borders. Security has been bolstered along Delhi’s borders in preparation for the impending protest.
