Adobe has launched a new AI Assistant, currently in beta, to enhance the capabilities of Reader and Acrobat’s Liquid Mode. This AI Assistant is designed to provide document intelligence, enabling new functionalities within Reader and Acrobat.
Integrated into the workflows of Reader and Acrobat, this new generative AI-powered assistant is capable of generating summaries and insights from lengthy documents. It can also answer questions and extract clean information for sharing in emails, presentations, and reports.
Adobe’s goal with this AI assistant is to democratize the power of Generative AI, aiming to unlock new value from the vast amount of information contained in over three trillion PDFs worldwide.
Built on the same AI and machine learning models as Acrobat Liquid Mode, the assistant offers deep understanding and reliable outputs from PDF content. According to Abhigyan Modi, senior vice president of Document Cloud at Adobe, “Generative AI offers the promise of more intelligent document experiences by transforming the information inside PDFs into actionable knowledge and professional-looking content.”
Modi highlighted Adobe’s long-standing legacy as the inventor of the PDF format and Acrobat application. Adobe introduced PDFs over 30 years ago with the vision of ensuring reliable communication of document information as intended by the author. The company has been investing in AI for Acrobat for over five years, aiming to improve document understanding.
The AI assistant beta is currently available for Acrobat Individual, Pro, and Teams customers, as well as those on the Acrobat Pro trial version. Features will soon be accessible in Acrobat Reader as well.

– Formatted Output: The AI Assistant can consolidate and format information into top takeaways, email text, reports, etc., for easy sharing.
Adobe emphasizes that the AI Assistant can be used with various document formats, such as Word, PowerPoint, meeting transcripts, etc. Data security protocols govern the use of AI Assistant features in Reader and Acrobat, ensuring customer document content is not stored or used for training without consent.
After the beta phase, Reader and Acrobat users will have access to AI Assistant features via a new add-on subscription. Beta features are currently free for Acrobat Standard/Pro Individual and Teams subscribers in English on desktop and web, with Reader support coming later. Plans for other languages and a private beta for enterprises are also in the pipeline.
