Following the Coordination Committee meeting of the I.N.D.I.A bloc, DMK MP TR Baalu announced that the coalition, comprising more than two dozen opposition parties, has made a collective decision to organize their inaugural joint public rally in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, during the first week of October.
This strategic move comes in the run-up to the state’s upcoming assembly elections and underscores the opposition’s concerted efforts to challenge the incumbent government.
Baalu, a prominent figure within the alliance, emphasized that seat-sharing discussions among the constituent parties will commence promptly, with a focus on states slated for assembly elections later this year. He stated, “We have decided to engage in seat-sharing arrangements and discussions across various states. Our priority will be states where assembly elections are imminent. The first rally is scheduled to take place in Bhopal during the first week of October.”
The Coordination Committee of the I.N.D.I.A alliance convened for its inaugural meeting, which saw the participation of 12 member parties. The gathering took place at the residence of NCP chief Sharad Pawar in the national capital on Wednesday. Notably, Abhishek Banerjee of the All India Trinamool Congress was unable to attend due to a summons by the Enforcement Directorate, a development attributed to political maneuvering by the Bharatiya Janata Party, as stated in a joint statement.
The Committee resolved to initiate the process of determining seat allocations among the member parties and encouraged them to engage in discussions and reach decisions expeditiously. In addition, the Coordination Committee granted authority to the Sub-Group on Media to determine the television program hosts to whom none of the I.N.D.I.A alliance parties will send their representatives.
Several states, including Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Telangana, are set to hold assembly elections later this year, making these electoral contests a top priority for the opposition.
The next meeting of the I.N.D.I.A Alliance is scheduled to occur following the special session of Parliament.
Furthermore, during the meeting, discussions centered on the controversy surrounding Sanatan Dharma. It was decided that all alliance parties would adopt a unified stance on this matter, according to inside sources.
The Opposition’s Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (I.N.D.I.A) convened its third meeting in Mumbai on September 1, during which a 14-member coordination committee was unveiled. While the names of 13 members have been disclosed, the identity of one member remains undisclosed, and the alliance has yet to appoint a convener.
The 14-member committee comprises prominent leaders, including KC Venugopal (Congress), Sharad Pawar (NCP), TR Baalu (DMK), Hemant Soren (JMM), Sanjay Raut (SS), Tejasvi Yadav (RJD), Raghav Chaddha (AAP), Javed Ali Khan (SP), Lallan Singh (JD(U)), D Raja (CPI), Omar Abdullah (NC), Mehbooba Mufti (PDP), and one representative from the CPI(M), whose identity will be disclosed at a later date.
