India-Japan Ties Strengthened by Quad Cooperation: EAM Jaishankar

On Friday, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar underscored the importance of the India-Japan partnership, particularly within the framework of the Quad, during his address at the Nikkei Forum on the India-Japan Special Strategic Partnership. He emphasized that both nations could derive strength from their collaborative efforts, contributing to the effectiveness and scope of the Quad initiative.

Jaishankar highlighted the evolving global landscape and the significance of India and Japan’s relationship in addressing national, regional, and global challenges. He stressed the need for continuous nurturing and revitalization of the bilateral ties at various levels to adapt to new complexities and seize emerging opportunities.

During his visit to Japan for the 16th India-Japan Foreign Minister’s Strategic Dialogue, Jaishankar held discussions with his Japanese counterpart, Yoko Kamikawa. He noted convergence on major issues and improved coordination between the two countries in responding to common concerns.

The External Affairs Minister also mentioned ongoing bilateral military exercises and emphasized the need to enhance trade and investment ties. Both countries are actively exploring collaborations in emerging technologies, aiming to establish robust supply chains and digital connectivity.

While acknowledging effective cooperation in global politics and multilateral forums, Jaishankar highlighted the need to strengthen people-to-people linkages between India and Japan.

Responding to queries regarding China’s participation in the Global South Summit, Jaishankar clarified that China was not present at the two summits convened by India.

Addressing the Raisina Roundtable in Tokyo, Jaishankar expressed concerns about the turbulence in India-China relations, particularly in light of the border standoff. He emphasized the importance of honoring agreements and maintaining stability in the Indo-Pacific region amidst shifting power dynamics, citing the need for constructive engagement despite challenges posed by China’s behavior in recent years.
