Zambry Abdul Kadir, Malaysia’s Foreign Minister, recently embarked on an official visit to India, spanning November 5-9. During this visit, he undertook a thorough review of the progress achieved in various areas of bilateral cooperation, including political, defense and security, and maritime collaboration. Accompanied by high-ranking Malaysian government officials, Kadir engaged in discussions with his Indian counterparts to identify pathways for further strengthening the Enhanced Strategic Partnership between India and Malaysia. The focus of these discussions centered on deepening economic and defense engagements.
The two nations also expressed their eagerness to foster collaboration in emerging fields such as digital public infrastructure, fintech, and semiconductors. Additionally, they exchanged perspectives on regional, multilateral, and geopolitical issues of shared interest. On November 8, Kadir met with India’s External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar, as part of the 6th Joint Commission Meeting. This meeting yielded significant outcomes, including a strong commitment from both sides to further enhance cooperation across all sectors.
Kadir co-chaired the 6th India-Malaysia Joint Commission Meeting (JCM), which conducted a comprehensive review of the progress made in all areas of bilateral cooperation. These areas included political, defense and security, maritime cooperation, trade and investment, health, energy, science and technology, culture, tourism, and people-to-people ties. Prior to the JCM, Kadir paid a courtesy call to India’s Vice President, Jagdeep Dhankhar. Following this meeting, Kadir held discussions with his Indian counterpart, S Jaishankar. The two leaders reviewed the Enhanced Strategic Partnership between Malaysia and India and reaffirmed Malaysia’s commitment to expanding the partnership with the aim of elevating Malaysia-India relations to a higher level.
In a demonstration of Malaysia’s unwavering commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with other countries, Kadir also met with Heads of Mission accredited to Malaysia (residing in New Delhi) from Burkina Faso, Cyprus, Eritrea, Jamaica, Mali, Nigeria, and Paraguay. During Kadir’s visit, India and Malaysia exchanged a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Cooperation in Broadcasting between Prasar Bharti, India, and Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM), Malaysia. Additionally, notes were exchanged between the Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service (SSIFS) and the Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Affairs (IDFR) on Cooperation in the Field of Training of Diplomats and Other Personnel.tunesharemore_vert
