The Consulate General of India in New York has reassured the safety of Indian students and professionals residing in Jersey City following a fire incident in a residential building. The consulate stated that they are in constant touch with the affected individuals and are providing them with necessary assistance, including accommodations and important documents.
The fire, which broke out in a multi-family building, originated in the basement and quickly spread to the first and second floors, eventually reaching the roof. Thankfully, no injuries were reported among the residents, including the Indian students and professionals. Jersey City firefighters responded promptly to the incident, although the fire caused damage to the roof of a neighboring building.
City spokeswoman Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione confirmed that the fire had caused significant damage to the structure, leading to the displacement of more than a dozen residents, primarily students. The American Red Cross stepped in to provide aid to the affected individuals, offering support to 14 residents who suffered severe fire and overhaul damage.
