Indian Family Discovered Dead, Gunshot Wounds in $2 Million US Residence

An Indian-origin family from Kerala was discovered dead at their California home in what appears to have been a murder-suicide. The family has been identified as 42-year-old Anand Sujith Henry, his 40-year-old wife Alice Priyanka, and their twin 4-year-old children, Noah and Neithan. Police discovered the bodies after a family member requested a welfare check because no one was home when the call came in. Anand and Alice, an Indian-American couple, were discovered inside a restroom, dead from gunshot wounds. The twins’ cause of death is currently being looked into after their bodies were found dead in a bedroom.

“After arriving officers were met with no response, they searched the perimeter of the home and did not see any signs of forced entry into the house. Finding an unlocked window, officers entered the home and located four people dead; 1 adult male, 1 adult female, and two children,” police said.

From the restroom, a loaded magazine and a 9mm handgun were found. Records indicate that the couple paid $2.1 million for the house in 2020. Police preliminary analysis points to a potential murder-suicide scenario, but they haven’t ruled out other options.

“Based on the information we have at this time, this appears to be an isolated incident with no danger to the public as we are confident the person responsible was located within the home,” the San Mateo police department said in a statement.

The family had arrived in the US nine years ago, having originally come from Kerala. Two years ago, Anand, a software engineer, and Alice, a senior analyst, moved to San Mateo County from New Jersey. The pair was well-liked by coworkers and neighbors alike, and they were described as kind, industrious, and loving parents. Anand filed for divorce in December 2016, but the separation was not finalized in court, according to court documents. Since taking up the case, the San Mateo County Crime Lab and the Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) have collaborated to gather evidence. The San Mateo County Coroner has taken custody of the bodies and is currently in the process of positively identifying each person and notifying their next of kin.

The case is uncannily similar to a recent Massachusetts $5 million mansion murder case involving an affluent Indian couple and their teenage daughter. Eric Garcetti, the US envoy to India, gave comfort that the US is determined to keep India a safe place for Indian students to study.
