Indian Navy and NCB Intercept Vessel Carrying Drugs Weighing over 3,000 kg off Gujarat Coast

In a highly successful joint operation at sea, the Indian Navy, in conjunction with the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), intercepted a suspicious boat carrying nearly 3,300 kg of contraband off the coast of Gujarat. According to a statement by the Indian Navy, this seizure marks the largest quantity of contraband intercepted in recent times.

The suspicious vessel was intercepted close to the International Maritime Boundary Line in the Arabian Sea off the Gujarat coast. The seized contraband, along with the apprehended boat and crew, were handed over to law enforcement agencies at an Indian port on February 27.

The confiscated items included 3089 kg of charas, 158 kg of methamphetamine, and 25 kg of morphine.

Based on information provided by the P8I LRMR aircraft during a surveillance mission, the Indian Navy’s mission-deployed ship was redirected to intercept the suspicious dhow engaged in contraband smuggling.

This significant drug seizure from the dhow, which is the largest in terms of quantity to date, was made possible through the combined efforts of the Indian Navy’s mission-deployed assets in collaboration with the NCB.

The coordinated response of the Indian Navy with law enforcement agencies underscores our unwavering commitment to combat narcotics trafficking in India’s maritime vicinity.
