The shooting competition at the Paris Olympics witnessed another disappointment on Saturday when Sarabjot Singh and Arjun Cheema of India missed the final round in the men’s 10m air pistol event. Cheema ended in 18th place with 574-17x points, while Sarabjot reached the ninth position with 577-16x points. Neither made it into the final eight who qualified for the medal round.
Players can take 60 shots in the qualification round of the 10 m air pistol men’s competition in a time of 75 minutes. The field of 33 competitors could allow only eight players through for the medal round on Sunday. After the first series of shots, Cheema was placed 12th with 96 while Sarabjot was way down at 28th place with 94.

Cheema rose to the 10th spot in the second series with perfect 10s in his last five shots. In the second series, he scored 97. Sarabjot was also at the 10th spot with 97 points.
At the end of his third series, Sarabjot dropped once again, near to the bottom half of the table to 17th place with 96 points scored in his 10 shots. However, Cheema kept scoring brilliantly, moving to fourth spot at the end of his third series.

Sarabjot moved into the top eight at the end of his fourth series, reaching the third spot thanks to a full series of perfect 10-point shots.

With 93 in his fifth series, Cheema continued to drop and went down to 21st position. Sarabjot slipped to 12th with 93 in his fifth series. The two Indian players needed an incredible last series to get into the top eight.

By the end of the final series, Cheema was on the 18th spot with a total of 574-17x while Sarabjot ended on the ninth place with a total of 577-16x.

The India shooting campaign at the Paris 2024 Olympics got off on a disappointing note when two Indian teams in action during the qualification round in the 10 m air rifle mixed team events failed to make it to the medal matches on Saturday.

Two pairs representing India, Elavenil Valarivan and Sandeep Singh, and Arjun Babuta and Ramita Jindal, participated in the 10m air rifle mixed teams qualifiers. Out of a total of 28 teams, only four teams get to qualify further to the knockout stages—a gold medal match for the top two and a bronze medal match for teams ranked third and fourth. India did not make it to the final four.
Ramita and Arjun finished sixth with 628.7 points following three series, with Ramita getting 314.5 and Arjun 314.2 points. They missed the bronze medal by just one point, as Germany ended at number four with 629.7.

The pair of Elavenil and Sandeep finished 12th with 626.3 points, with Elavenil scoring 312.6 points and Sandeep got 313.7 points.

The women’s 10m air pistol qualification, which will feature India’s Manu Bhaker and Rhythm Sangwan in action, is scheduled to start at 4 pm IST.
