External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held meetings with key officials during his visit to the United States, focusing on the expanding trade and economic relationship between India and the US. Jaishankar took to social media to share insights from his discussions.

Jaishankar wrote on his official social media account (formerly Twitter), “Good to see US Trade Representative @AmbassadorTai. Spoke about our expanding trade and economic relationship and its broader significance.”

Additionally, Jaishankar engaged in a meaningful dialogue with think tanks in Washington DC, emphasizing India’s growing role in global transformation. He remarked, “An open and productive conversation with Think Tanks in Washington DC this morning. Discussed transformations underway around the world and India’s growing role.”

Earlier in the day, the External Affairs Minister met with US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan. Both officials acknowledged the significant progress achieved in bilateral relations throughout the year and explored avenues for further collaboration. Jaishankar commented, “Began my Washington DC visit with a meeting with NSA @JakeSullivan46. Recognized the tremendous progress in our bilateral relationship this year and discussed taking it forward.”

Jaishankar’s visit to the US, scheduled from September 22 to 30, involves engagements with various delegates. Additionally, he will address the 4th World Culture Festival organized by the Art of Living.

It’s worth noting that earlier this month, US President Joe Biden visited New Delhi for the G20 Summit held under India’s Presidency. During his visit, President Biden met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss various issues, including defense cooperation and technology sharing.

Furthermore, during his address at the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Jaishankar emphasized the need to avoid “political convenience” when responding to terrorism and extremism, alluding to a diplomatic dispute with Canada. He also stressed that principles like respect for territorial integrity and non-interference in internal affairs should not be selectively applied.
