The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, commencing on March 22, is set to feature a galaxy of cricketing superstars as expert commentators. On Wednesday, the host broadcaster JioCinema revealed the latest additions to their commentary team for the 17th edition of this prestigious tournament.
This season’s IPL will be broadcast in a diverse range of languages, including English, Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Bhojpuri, Punjabi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and making its debut, Haryanvi.
Renowned former Indian opener Virender Sehwag will take the helm as the lead presenter for the Haryanvi language coverage. Additionally, ex-India cricketer Ajay Jadeja will mark his debut as a commentator in Gujarati.
Joining the ranks are former Australian cricketer Shane Watson and former New Zealand coach and Director of Cricket at Royal Challengers Bangalore, Mike Hesson. Sehwag and Jadeja, along with Watson and Hesson, will offer fans exclusive insights into the IPL franchise dressing rooms.
Having had illustrious careers in the IPL, Sehwag, after his stints with Delhi Daredevils and Kings XI Punjab, transitioned into a mentorship role with the Punjab franchise. Alongside him in the Haryanvi commentary will be Manvinder Bisla, the standout player in the 2012 IPL Final.
Watson, celebrated for his successes with Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings, brings his wealth of experience to IPL 2024 commentary. His remarkable 117* in the 2018 Final for CSK against Sunrisers Hyderabad remains one of the most memorable innings in IPL history.
Mike Hesson, recognized as one of cricket’s sharpest minds, continues his IPL journey as an expert commentator. Having coached Kings XI Punjab and served as the director of cricket operations at RCB, Hesson will provide valuable insights alongside players he has mentored, including Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers.
Siddharth Sharma, Viacom18 Sports Head of Content, expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming season’s innovations and initiatives, building upon the success of previous editions. “The response we received for our comprehensive coverage of TATA IPL 2023 was heartening, and we are enhancing the experience for TATA IPL 2024 with renowned commentators, deeper engagement, and unique offerings,” Sharma stated in a press release by JioCinema.
The IPL 2024 kicks off with defending champions Chennai Super Kings facing Royal Challengers Bangalore in a thrilling South Indian derby at the iconic MA Chidambaram Stadium on March 22.
