Both Houses of Parliament were postponed till 2 p.m. on Thursday, only minutes after they began, amid a commotion over Rahul Gandhi’s recent statements in the United Kingdom, as well as the Adani problem. This is the eighth day of the second leg of the Budget Session, which began on March 13.
Both Houses held a minute of silence in honour of Shaheed Diwas, which commemorates the execution of revolutionaries Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev by the British. Minutes after the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha began their sessions on Thursday, both chambers were postponed till 2 p.m.
Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar stated that he met with three-floor leaders on Thursday as part of negotiations to break the impasse between the BJP and the Opposition parties. Yet, both parties have adopted a firm stance. The discussion began at 10 a.m. today in Dhankar’s chamber to discuss how to keep Rajya Sabha running smoothly.
The conference was attended by Union Ministers Piyush Goyal, Pralhad Joshi, Arjun Ram Meghwal, V Muraleedharan, and others. The Jammu and Kashmir Appropriation Bill 2023 and the Appropriation Bill (no. 2) 2023 were passed by the Lok Sabha on March 21. The Rajya Sabha, on the other hand, adjourned without taking up any legislative business.
Both Houses have been adjourned many times, with the Opposition seeking a Joint Parliamentary Committee look into the Adani Group problem and the Treasury benches clamouring for Rahul Gandhi to apologise for his statements.
