Lok Sabha to take up Delhi Services Bill for consideration

The BJP has given its Lok Sabha MPs a three-line whip. This week, the Bill is also on the Rajya Sabha's agenda.

The bill to replace the Delhi service ordinance is expected to be discussed and passed by the Lok Sabha on August 2.

The bill will be moved for passage in the House by Union Minister Amit Shah, according to the House’s agenda for the day. On August 1, the measure was tabled in the Lok Sabha, despite opposition parties’ objections to the government’s action.
When the bill is put up for discussion, opposition MPs including Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Saugata Roy, NK Premachandran, Sushil Kumar Rinku, and Asaduddin Owaisi are likely to present a resolution against the ordinance that was issued by the Centre in May of this year.

Days after the Supreme Court’s ruling on the matter, in May, the Delhi service control ordinance was promulgated.
The National Capital Territory of Delhi’s government is given the authority under the bill to establish regulations on its operations, including those pertaining to the duties, pay, and other working conditions of its officials and workers.
The BJP has given its Lok Sabha MPs a three-line whip. This week, the Bill is also on the Rajya Sabha’s agenda.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been seeking support from opposition parties against the bill, especially in the Rajya Sabha.
Parties of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (I.N.D.I.A) are opposing the bill.
