Lucknow: Samajwadi Party Workers Put ‘Akhilesh Yadav as Future PM’ Posters

Party workers outside the Samajwadi Party (SP) headquarters in Lucknow displayed numerous posters portraying Akhilesh Yadav, the SP Chief, as the “future Prime Minister.” The celebration of his birthday, which falls on July 1, is a display of love and respect by the party workers, as shared by SP spokesperson Fakhrul Hasan Chaand in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.

Chaand stated, “Party workers are praying that Akhilesh Yadav becomes the PM of the country and serves the people…”

Akhilesh Yadav’s SP is a constituent of the INDIA bloc, a coalition of 28 political parties established to contest the 2024 Lok Sabha polls against the Bharatiya Janata Party. However, the alliance has not yet disclosed the identity of its Prime Ministerial candidate.

Reacting to the posters, BJP leader and Minister in the UP Government, Danish Azad Ansari, remarked that no one can deter others from indulging in wishful thinking. He noted, “There is a saying, ‘Mungeri Lal Ke Haseen Sapne’ (daydreaming). Nobody can stop anyone from daydreaming. But one should dream as per one’s capability. Under PM Modi’s leadership, our country is progressing on the path of development. People trust PM Modi, and the nation will certainly elect him as the PM for the third time.”

Tensions have also emerged within the INDIA alliance, with Uttar Pradesh Congress unit Chief Ajay Rai urging the SP to withdraw from Madhya Pradesh in favor of the Congress. He argued that the Akhilesh Yadav-led party lacked a significant presence there.

In response, Akhilesh Yadav accused certain “Congress leaders of siding with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)” and expressed distrust in the Congress, suggesting that he would not have trusted the grand old party if he had known about their perceived betrayal. He also indicated his lack of awareness regarding the formation of the INDIA bloc at the national level to counter the BJP, emphasizing that the alliance partners are not coordinating at the state level.
