Patrick Mahomes Sr. has been officially charged following his arrest in Texas on February 3, just a week before his son, Patrick Mahomes, led the Kansas City Chiefs to a Super Bowl victory. The retired Major League relief pitcher has been indicted for a felony drunk-driving charge, according to online court records. The indictment was filed in Smith County, Texas, for DWI (Driving While Intoxicated).
According to Bleacher Report, the father of the Chiefs’ quarterback served a 40-day sentence for his second DWI charge in 2018, to which he pleaded guilty.
One of his DUI charges is said to trace back to 1994, involving a car accident. Another incident occurred in 2016, involving public intoxication during a match between Texas Christian University and his son’s alma mater, Texas Tech University.

Mahomes Sr. previously informed CNN’s Ben Morse of his intention to attend his son’s Super LVIII showdown against the San Francisco 49ers on February 11. However, his arrest occurred before the most significant game of the season.
On February 5, Patrick was asked about his father during a press conference ahead of the final game. He responded, “He’s doing good. I don’t really want to get into it too much…”
Although the Smith County District Attorney’s office has yet to comment on the pending case, police reported finding an open beer can in Mahomes Sr.’s car. Additionally, several failed sobriety tests compounded the situation. Police also noted that he was stopped because his vehicle was noticeably moving slower than others, and his car’s registration had reportedly expired.
