Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra announced that following his visit to the UAE, Prime Minister Modi will proceed to Doha, Qatar, on February 14. During this visit, scheduled for the afternoon of February 14, PM Modi will engage in bilateral discussions with Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad, the Amir of Qatar, as well as other high-ranking dignitaries in Qatar. This marks the Prime Minister’s second visit to Qatar. The bilateral trade between India and Qatar currently stands at a robust $20 billion.
When queried about the number of Indian prisoners in countries such as UAE, Qatar, and others, Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra stated that the Government of India has implemented comprehensive mechanisms involving counsellor dialogues and discussions between the Indian system and those of the respective countries. One of the primary objectives is to continually strive for the early release of all Indian prisoners, regardless of their location. Additionally, there are established mechanisms and systems in place to ensure that necessary assistance is provided to these prisoners through government channels wherever feasible. These systems have been significantly reinforced and their scope expanded extensively.
