Madhya Pradesh Polls: Congress Leader Digvijaya Singh Urges ECI to Provide VVPAT Slips to Voters

Former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Digvijaya Singh, has once again attracted attention ahead of the state assembly polls by urging the Election Commission of India (ECI) to provide VVPAT (Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail) slips to voters. Singh took to social media to express his request, citing concerns about alleged tampering with Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) during the trial of these machines in the state.

“Respected Election Commission, we have a simple request: please hand over the VVPAT slips separately, which we will keep in a dedicated ballot box. Before the official count, let’s randomly select and tally the votes from 10 ballot boxes with the results from the counting unit. If the results match, then the declaration should be based on the counting unit’s results. What is the issue with this proposal? We urge the Supreme Court to take this matter seriously and safeguard democracy in our country,” Digvijaya Singh wrote ahead of Madhya Pradesh Elections.

In support of his claim, Singh shared a YouTube link indicating that during the EVM trial in Madhya Pradesh, only one political party’s VVPAT slip was received. Responding to Singh’s statement, Rajneesh Agarwal, the state secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), criticized the Congress Party, alleging that they tend to blame EVMs whenever they perform poorly in elections.

“Whenever the Congress is facing a significant loss in elections, they resort to blaming EVMs. Despite the rejection of these allegations by the Supreme Court and ECI, Digvijaya Singh continues to mislead the public and point fingers at EVMs for Congress’ defeats. The confidence in Congress has dwindled. Congress is already making efforts to make baseless accusations,” Agarwal stated.

He further asserted that the BJP is poised to secure victory in the upcoming assembly polls, aiming for more than 150 out of 230 seats in the state. Madhya Pradesh is scheduled to hold the assembly polls on November 17, with the vote counting set to take place on December 3.
