Ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticized the Mamata Banerjee government in West Bengal, particularly addressing the Sandeshkhali issue. Speaking at a public gathering in the Khunkul area of Hooghly district, he expressed national outrage over the treatment of women in Sandeshkhali by the TMC government.
“The country is witnessing the actions of TMC towards the women of Sandeshkhali. The entire nation is angered. Raja Ram Mohan Roy’s soul must have been distressed by the events in Sandeshkhali,” he remarked.
Although not directly naming TMC leader Sheikh Shahjahan, accused of sexual assault and land grabbing in Sandeshkhali, the PM denounced his actions. He highlighted the efforts of BJP leaders in defending the dignity and respect of women in the region, noting Shahjahan’s recent arrest by the police.
PM Modi also criticized leaders of the INDIA bloc for their silence on the Sandeshkhali issue, likening their indifference to Gandhiji’s three monkeys. He emphasized the need for the people to respond to the ruling party through their votes, questioning Mamata Banerjee’s stance on the matter.
“The people of West Bengal are questioning their CM ‘Didi’ – does the vote of certain individuals hold more value than the suffering of women in Sandeshkhali?” he remarked.
Further, PM Modi assured that the Modi government would ensure the return of every penny looted by those in power, highlighting TMC’s hindrance to the empowerment of the underprivileged.
Sandeshkhali, located in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, has witnessed extensive protests against TMC leader Shahjahan Sheikh. Several women accused him and his associates of land grabbing and sexual assault, leading to his arrest by the West Bengal police.
