NIA Apprehends Accused from Manipur Linked to Cross-Border Conspiracy

Seiminlun Gangte along with his associates has been found funneling funds to acquire weaponry, ammunition, and other terrorist equipment.

NIA Apprehends Accused from Manipur Linked to Cross-Border Conspiracy

In a joint operation with Manipur police based on intelligence inputs, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) apprehended an individual on Saturday in connection with a transnational conspiracy. This conspiracy involves leadership from Myanmar and Bangladesh-linked terror organizations, aiming to incite conflict against the Indian government by exploiting the ongoing ethnic tensions in Manipur.

The arrested individual, identified as Seiminlun Gangte, is a suspect in a case that the NIA initiated on its own on July 19 this year. Following his apprehension, Gangte has been transported to Delhi and will face legal proceedings in the appropriate jurisdictional court.

The NIA’s investigation into this case (RC 24/2023/NIA/DLI) has exposed a plot wherein militant groups based in Myanmar and Bangladesh have conspired with certain militant leaders within India. Their objective is to orchestrate acts of violence with the aim of sowing discord among various ethnic communities and ultimately waging war against the Indian government.

To achieve these nefarious goals, the aforementioned leadership has been funneling funds to acquire weaponry, ammunition, and other terrorist equipment. These resources are being procured both from sources across the border and from other active terrorist outfits in the North Eastern states of India. These efforts are intended to exacerbate the ongoing ethnic strife in Manipur.
