The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken a significant step in the ongoing investigation into the March 2023 attack and vandalism at the Indian Consulate in San Francisco, USA. The agency has released photographs of 10 wanted individuals believed to be involved in the incident and is appealing to the general public for information that could lead to their arrest.
In a statement issued by the NIA, the agency has issued three separate “Request for Identification & Information” notices against the wanted suspects. Two of these notices include photographs of two accused individuals each, while the third notice displays pictures of the remaining six accused allegedly linked to the case.
The NIA has also provided contact information, including telephone numbers and email addresses, for individuals to share any information they may have regarding these 10 suspects. The agency has assured the public that it will keep the identities of informants confidential.
The attack on the Indian Consulate in San Francisco unfolded during the night of March 18 and 19, 2023, when individuals associated with pro-Khalistani entities trespassed into the consulate premises. They attempted to set fire to the consulate building, prompting a swift response from law enforcement.
On the same day, supporters of the Khalistani movement breached makeshift security barriers erected by the city police and displayed Khalistani flags within the consulate premises. Additionally, the consulate building was damaged, and consulate officials were reportedly assaulted and injured during the incident.
Further incidents occurred during the night of July 1 and 2, when unidentified individuals again trespassed into the consulate premises and attempted to set the building on fire while consulate officials were inside.
The NIA launched an investigation into the matter after registering a case on June 16 under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including section 13 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and section 3(1) of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act.
To aid in their investigation, an NIA team recently traveled to San Francisco, underscoring the agency’s commitment to bringing those responsible for the attacks on the Indian Consulate to justice.
The release of the photographs of the wanted suspects is a crucial development in the case, as it seeks to engage the public in assisting law enforcement agencies in their pursuit of those involved in the attacks. The NIA’s appeal for information underscores the importance of community involvement in maintaining security and ensuring justice in such incidents.
