Nitish Kumar meets Kharge, Rahul Gandhi amid talks for Opposition unity

Nitish Kumar, the chief minister of Bihar, met with Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and party leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday as part of attempts to create a unified front versus the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

The gathering took place in Kharge’s home. According to reports, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav was not present at Kharge’s home for “health reasons,” despite frequently traveling with Nitish Kumar to similar meetings.

The meeting will take place against the backdrop of plans for a sizable opposition gathering in Patna.

Nitish Kumar earlier met with Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday

On Sunday, Nitish Kumar and Tejashwi Yadav met with Arvind Kejriwal, the chief executive of Delhi, in the nation’s capital and offered their support for the AAP leader against the Centre’s introduction of an ordinance that is thought to have invalidated the Supreme Court judgment transferring control of “services” to the Delhi government with some exceptions.

The National Capital Civil Service Authority is established by the ordinance. Attacking the Centre Bihar CM Nitish Kumar asked, “How can powers given to an elected government be taken away?” He went on to say that “It’s against the Constitution. We stand with Arvind Kejriwal.”

The Bihar Chief Minister also said that he will be meeting Delhi CM Kejriwal and stated, “We are trying to bring together all opposition parties in the country.”

Kharge and Rahul Gandhi were also met last month by Nitish Kumar and Tejashwi Yadav.
