“Nothing Recovered, No Trace”: Sanjay Singh Granted Bail After 6 Months In Jail

Aam Aadmi Party Leader Sanjay Singh who was arrested in the Delhi Excise Policy case by the ED on October 4 last year has been granted bail by the Supreme Court of India today on (April 2).

Following the ED’s statement expressing no objection to bail, the Court granted bail to Sanjay Singh, emphasizing that it hasn’t made any determination on the case’s merits.

The bench, comprising Justices Sanjiv Khanna, Dipankar Datta, and PB Varale, specified that Singh could engage in political activities while on bail, and clarified that this ruling wouldn’t serve as a precedent.

Additional Solicitor General SV Raju, representing the ED, made the concession around 2 PM. Earlier, during the morning session, the bench had instructed Raju to ascertain whether Singh’s continued detention was necessary.

When the bench reconvened at 2 PM, Raju stated, “Without delving into the merits, I am willing to concede on the bail matter given the unique circumstances.”

After arguments presented by Senior Advocate Dr. Abhishek Manu Singhvi on Singh’s behalf and noting exculpatory statements from approver Dinesh Arora with no recovery of funds, the Bench requested the ED’s stance.

“Nothing has been recovered, there is no trace,” remarked the bench during the proceedings.
