Ola Electric Unveils Roadster Series: A Closer Look at the Affordable Electric Motorcycle Variants

Ola Electric has entered the electric motorcycle market with the launch of its first-ever series, the Roadster. This new line-up marks a significant step forward for the company, which is already known for its electric scooters. The Roadster series offers several variants, including the Roadster X, Roadster, and Roadster Pro. In this article, we’ll take an in-depth look at the two most affordable models in this series—the Roadster X and the Roadster.

Roadster X: Entry-Level Efficiency

The Roadster X is positioned as the entry-level model in Ola Electric’s motorcycle series, designed to make electric biking more accessible to a wider audience. This model is available in three different battery configurations: 2.5kWh, 3.5kWh, and 4.5kWh. Depending on the battery size, the prices are set at Rs. 74,999, Rs. 84,999, and Rs. 99,999 respectively (all prices are ex-showroom, Bengaluru).

The Roadster X is equipped with an 11kW motor that offers a commendable performance for its price range. The top variant of the Roadster X boasts a maximum range of 200 kilometers on a single charge, with a top speed of 124 kmph, making it a practical choice for city commuting as well as short-distance rides. The lower battery variants offer slightly reduced ranges, but still provide ample power for everyday use.

In terms of features, the Roadster X comes with three riding modes: Sport, Normal, and Eco, which can be easily toggled via the 4.3-inch LCD display powered by MoveOS 5. The bike also includes Ola Maps Navigation with turn-by-turn directions, advanced regenerative braking (regen), cruise control, and DIY mode. Additionally, it offers TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) alerts, OTA (Over-the-Air) updates, digital key unlock, and connectivity with the Ola Electric App, ensuring a tech-savvy riding experience.

Roadster: Mid-Range Performance with Enhanced Features

Stepping up from the Roadster X, the Roadster variant offers more robust performance and additional features, making it a strong contender in the mid-range electric motorcycle segment. The Roadster is available in three battery options: 3kWh, 4.5kWh, and 6kWh, with prices set at Rs. 1,04,999, Rs. 1,19,999, and Rs. 1,39,999 (ex-showroom, Bengaluru).

The Roadster is powered by a 13kW motor, delivering enhanced power and performance. The top-spec Roadster variant offers an impressive range of 248 kilometers and a top speed of 126 kmph, making it suitable for longer rides and those seeking a bit more thrill on the road.

One of the standout features of the Roadster is its 6.8-inch TFT touchscreen, which provides a more immersive and interactive experience compared to the Roadster X’s LCD display. The Roadster comes equipped with four riding modes: Hyper, Sport, Normal, and Eco, allowing riders to customize their ride experience to match their preferences or road conditions.

In addition to the features found on the Roadster X, the Roadster includes advanced smart features such as proximity unlock, party mode, tamper alert, and AI-powered functionalities like the Krutrim Assistant, smartwatch app integration, and a road trip planner. These features enhance the overall user experience, making the Roadster a well-rounded option for tech-savvy riders.

Common Features and Build Quality

Both the Roadster X and Roadster share several design and build quality features, ensuring a reliable and comfortable ride. They are equipped with telescopic front forks and a monoshock at the rear, providing a smooth and stable ride across various terrains. The braking system consists of single front and rear disc brakes, complete with ABS, offering safety and control. The bikes are mounted on alloy wheels with road-biased tires, ensuring grip and stability on both urban roads and highways.
