Speaker Om Birla has chosen to abstain from presiding over the Lower House till the members conduct themselves in a manner consistent with the decorum of the House after seeing the outrageous incidents in Lok Sabha since the Monsoon session started, sources said on Wednesday.
When the Parliament reconvened for the day, Om Birla, the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, was not in the chair. Om Birla has reportedly voiced extreme dissatisfaction with both the ruling party and the opposition on how the House is being run. Birla informed both parties that he would not enter the Lok Sabha unless MPs conducted themselves with respect for the House. When the House’s business began today, Birla was still absent from the Speaker’s chair.
Meanwhile, the din continued in the Lok Sabha leading to its adjournment till 2 pm and for the day later amid uproar over Manipur.
In the meantime, President Murmu was briefed on the Manipur situation today by a total of 31 members of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance, including the 21-member group of opposition MPs that traveled to Manipur for a two-day visit.
