Omar Abdullah Criticizes PDP, Rejects Alliance for Lok Sabha Polls. During a press briefing, Omar Abdullah criticized the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for targeting his party, the National Conference (NC), and ruled out any possibility of forming an alliance with them for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Abdullah stated that the PDP had lost its credibility by aligning with the BJP and betraying the people’s trust. He affirmed that the NC would independently contest all three Lok Sabha seats in the Kashmir valley, expressing confidence in securing victory by a significant margin. Additionally, he expressed disappointment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Srinagar, dismissing it as a mere “election stunt” devoid of substantial benefits for Kashmiris.
Abdullah pointed out that prevailing circumstances, not the NC, were responsible for keeping the PDP out, and questioned their presence in south Kashmir despite their third-place finish in the 2019 LS polls.
He criticized Modi for neglecting the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir during central rule since 2019. The Lok Sabha elections in Jammu and Kashmir are scheduled to coincide with the rest of the country in April-May 2024.
