A 21-member delegation representing the grand Opposition alliance I.N.D.I.A arrived in Manipur and visited victims of the recent violence at a relief camp in Churachandpur on Saturday. The leaders criticized the Central government for not sending its own delegation and described their visit as an attempt to provide “psychological healing” to the distressed people. Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Manoj Jha stated that they met with several individuals at the relief camp, listened to their grievances, and assured them that efforts were being made to improve the situation.
Reacting to allegations made by the BJP that the Opposition does not visit states like Rajasthan or Madhya Pradesh, Manoj Jha asserted that if such situations arose in those states, the Opposition would undoubtedly visit there as well. Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, who also visited the relief camp, expressed concern over the fear and anxiety visible on the faces of the victims. He criticized the government, stating that the victims believed they would receive no assistance from it.
Trinamool Congress MP Sushmita Dev rebuked the Centre for failing to send a delegation to violence-hit Manipur. She emphasized the fear and distress among the people, especially the children, and underlined the importance of their visit to the state. Dev questioned the timing of the CBI probe into the Manipur viral video case, expressing doubts about the government’s actions.
The viral video from Manipur, depicting two women allegedly being paraded naked, sparked widespread outrage and heightened concerns over the situation in Manipur, where ethnic clashes have erupted since May 4.
The 21-member opposition delegation’s two-day visit to Manipur aims to represent the demands of the people and gain a comprehensive understanding of the situation on the ground. Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey urged the visiting leaders to contribute to restoring peace and order in the violence-hit Northeast and called upon all parties and stakeholders to collaborate in bringing the state back on track.
The visiting delegation consists of representatives from various parties, including the Congress, JDU, Trinamool Congress, DMK, CPI, CPI(M), RJD, SP, JMM, NCP, AAP, Shiv Sena (UBT), VCK, and RLD. They have expressed their commitment to focus solely on the ground situation and refrain from raising any political issues during their visit.
