PM Modi Agrees to Visit Bhutan Next Week upon Receiving Invitation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has accepted an invitation from his Bhutanese counterpart, Tshering Tobgay, to visit Bhutan next week, as announced by the Ministry of External Affairs on Friday.

The decision came after PM Modi’s meeting with Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay of Bhutan in New Delhi on Thursday. During the meeting, PM Tshering Tobgay extended the invitation on behalf of the King of Bhutan, which PM Modi graciously accepted, as confirmed by the MEA in a press release.

Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay’s visit to India is his first official trip abroad since assuming office in February 2024. The discussions between the two leaders encompassed various aspects of bilateral cooperation, emphasizing areas such as infrastructure development, connectivity, energy, hydropower cooperation, people-to-people exchanges, and development cooperation. Both leaders reiterated their commitment to strengthening the enduring and special friendship between India and Bhutan.

PM Tshering Tobgay expressed deep appreciation for India’s consistent support as a reliable and valued partner in Bhutan’s developmental endeavors. The visit builds upon the recent official visit by the King of Bhutan, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, to India in November 2023, where discussions spanned bilateral cooperation, regional issues, and global concerns of mutual interest.

The longstanding and exceptional bilateral relations between India and Bhutan are characterized by trust, goodwill, and mutual understanding across all levels. The forthcoming visit presents an opportunity for both nations to deepen their cooperation across diverse sectors and further enhance their multifaceted ties.
