PM Modi and French President Macron to Convene a Working Lunch Meeting

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is slated to engage in a productive luncheon meeting with President Emmanuel Macron of France on Sunday, . Macron’s arrival in New Delhi occurred just a day prior as he joined the gathering for the two-day-long G20 Summit, a significant event hosted by India as part of its presidency.

Over the course of the two-day summit, Macron has a series of bilateral meetings on his agenda, including discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, among other prominent figures. Following these engagements, Macron is set to embark on a journey to Bangladesh on Sunday afternoon.

Notably, Modi and Macron had an earlier encounter in July during Prime Minister Modi’s visit to France for the Bastille Day Parade, underscoring the strong rapport between the two leaders.

A statement issued by Macron’s office highlighted the global significance of the G20 Summit, emphasizing its role in facilitating ongoing dialogues with counterparts from various continents. These discussions aim to address the pressing challenges of our time, such as preserving peace and stability, alleviating poverty, safeguarding the environment and climate, ensuring food security, and regulating the digital realm, all of which require effective multilateral cooperation.

Furthermore, the Summit presents an opportunity to build upon the achievements of the Summit for a New Global Financial Pact, held in Paris the previous June. This event led to the establishment of the Paris Agenda for People and the Planet, providing a comprehensive framework for collaborative efforts to reconcile poverty eradication with environmental preservation.

Before departing, Macron is expected to hold a press conference at the venue on Sunday afternoon, as confirmed by the Embassy of France in India. Subsequently, he will commence his journey to Bangladesh for a bilateral visit.

In a nod to the 25th anniversary of the Indo-French partnership, both nations have agreed to chart a roadmap that will guide their bilateral relations up to 2047. This timeline coincides with the centenary of India’s independence, the centenary of diplomatic ties between the two countries, and the 50th anniversary of their strategic partnership, marking a significant milestone in their enduring relationship.
