The Micron CEO acknowledged the engaging discussion, expressing appreciation for Prime Minister Modi’s support at both the central and state levels. He noted the significant steps Micron has taken by establishing a manufacturing plant in India and expressed optimism about India’s potential to emerge as a global hub in semiconductor manufacturing.
During Prime Minister Modi’s previous US State visit, Micron Technology unveiled its investment plans for India, pledging up to USD 825 million for a new semiconductor assembly and test facility with backing from the Indian government. Choosing Gujarat’s SANAND Industrial Park due to its robust manufacturing infrastructure, favorable business environment, and skilled talent pool, Micron aims to contribute to India’s ambitions in semiconductor manufacturing.
India, aspiring to become a major global player in semiconductor manufacturing over the next decade, is actively pursuing collaborations with both international and domestic entities. The semiconductor industry in the country is in its early stages, and the government is actively working to establish partnerships to advance its position in this critical sector.
The initial meeting between Sanjay Mehrotra and PM Modi occurred during the Semicon event in July last year, organized by India Semiconductor Mission. This event, in collaboration with industry associations, seeks to position India as a global hub for semiconductor design, manufacturing, and technology development. The upcoming tenth edition of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit, initiated by Narendra Modi in 2003, is scheduled for January 10 to 12, 2024, showcasing the state’s commitment to trade and industry on the global stage.
