PM Modi Donates Rs 2000/- To BJP Party Fund, Urges Others To Contribute

On Sunday, (March 3) Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a personal donation of Rs 2,000 to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in preparation for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Encouraging others to participate, PM Modi took to X (formerly Twitter) to advocate for involvement in the ‘Donation for Nation Building’ campaign facilitated through the NaMo app.

Expressing his support for @BJP4India and their endeavors in fostering a developed India, PM Modi tweeted, “I am pleased to contribute to @BJP4India and enhance our efforts towards building a prosperous Bharat. I also encourage everyone to join the #DonationForNationBuilding initiative via the NaMoApp!” alongside an image of his donation receipt to the party.

The BJP’s donation initiative was inaugurated on March 1 by national president JP Nadda, who made a contribution of Rs 1,000 to the party.

Sharing this update on platform X, Nadda conveyed, “I have made a donation to the BJP to express my personal endorsement of PM Modi’s vision for advancing India towards a ‘Viksit Bharat’. Let us all unite and participate in the ‘Donation for Nation Building’ movement by using the NaMo app.”

According to data from the Election Commission, the BJP amassed a total funding of Rs 719 crore during the fiscal year 2022-2023, indicating a 17 per cent increase from the previous year’s figures. In contrast, donations to the Congress party dwindled to Rs 79 crore during the same fiscal year from Rs 95.4 crore in 2021-2022.

Informing that under the provisions of the Income Tax Act, 1961, all political contributions are eligible for Income Tax exemption under section 80GGB for companies and section 80GGC for individuals.

The ruling party initiated its donation campaign several weeks following the Supreme Court’s prohibition of electoral bonds. These bonds were introduced by the BJP-led Central government and permitted anonymous funding to political parties.
