At the location of the submerged city of Dwarka, Prime Minister Narendra Modi prayed on Sunday while submerged in the deep ocean. He tweeted, “It was a very divine experience to pray in the city of Dwarka, which is immersed in the waters.” I was transported back in time to a bygone era of sublime spirituality and unending devotion. Bless us all, Bhagwan Shri Krishna.” Some see his visitation of the submerged city as an attempt to promote sea travel.

Prime Minister Modi paid a visit to the 36-island archipelago of Lakshadweep in January of this year. He posted photos of himself snorkeling in Lakshadweep and said that walks along its immaculate beaches in the early morning were “moments of pure bliss.” “I also tried snorkeling during my visit, and it was an incredible experience! “Lakshadweep has to be on your list for those who wish to embrace the adventurer in them,” he remarked.
Lakshadweep gained attention after PM Modi visited, with some claiming that its beaches surpassed those of the Maldives. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced in the Budget 2023–24 that initiatives for port connectivity, tourist infrastructure, and amenities will be pursued on our islands, including Lakshadweep, in response to the growing demand for domestic travel. Constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 980 crores, the “Sudarshan Setu” connects the Okha mainland and Beyt Dwarka island. The Prime Minister inaugurated it earlier today. At roughly 2.32 kilometers, it is the longest cable-stayed bridge in the nation.
