In a display of political camaraderie, leaders from various political parties came together to extend warm birthday wishes to Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi on her 77th birthday.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, breaking the political divide, took to social media platform ‘X’ to convey his best wishes. “Best wishes to Smt. Sonia Gandhi Ji on her birthday. May she be blessed with a long and healthy life,” the Prime Minister tweeted on Saturday. The unexpected gesture comes amid the backdrop of the Congress party’s recent losses in three Hindi heartland states and with the crucial Lok Sabha elections just six months away.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge reciprocated the goodwill, describing Sonia Gandhi as a “relentless advocate of the rights of the marginalised.” He took to ‘X’ to express his greetings, saying, “Greetings to Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson, Smt. Sonia Gandhi ji on her birthday. A relentless advocate of the rights of the marginalised, she has been a symbol of utmost grace while battling adversity with courage, grit and selfless sacrifice. I wish her a long and healthy life.”
Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal also joined the chorus of well-wishers, applauding Sonia Gandhi’s commitment to public service and the upliftment of the poor and marginalised sections of society. “My best wishes to CPP Chairperson Smt. Sonia Gandhi ji on her birthday! Her commitment to public service and the upliftment of the poor and marginalised sections of society have won a billion hearts,” he said in a ‘X’ post.
Acknowledging Sonia Gandhi’s significant role in Indian politics, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin extended his birthday greetings. “Birthday greetings to Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Madam Sonia Gandhi, an exemplar of devoted public life. Wishing her a long life filled with good health,” Stalin remarked. He also praised Sonia’s contribution to strengthening the opposition alliance, stating, “May her profound vision and wealth of experience continue to be a guiding light in our united endeavour to save #INDIA from autocratic forces.”
Reflecting on Sonia’s political journey, leaders across the spectrum hailed her as an inspiration. “Her life journey is an inspiration for us all. She steered the Congress through an extremely challenging period with great poise and was the architect of the UPA government that delivered welfare for all and exponential growth for the country,” remarked a Congress leader.
Sonia Gandhi, who was last seen at the swearing-in ceremony of Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, has also convened a Congress Parliamentary Strategy Group meeting to strategize for the upcoming winter session of Parliament. As the veteran leader celebrates her birthday, the political landscape sees a rare moment of unity as leaders from different parties come together to wish her well.
