With only a few months remaining until the Assembly elections in Telangana, PM Modi launched the Bharatiya Janata Party’s electoral campaign in the state by targeting its political rivals, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and the Congress, over issues related to dynastic politics and corruption.
Prime Minister Modi criticized both the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and Congress, referring to them as “two family-run parties” that are notorious for corruption and unethical practices, alleging that they have hindered the state’s progress. Speaking at an event in Mahabubnagar, PM Modi stated, “The Telangana government is like a car, but someone else is holding the steering wheel… The growth of Telangana has been impeded by two family-controlled parties, both known for their corruption and malfeasance.”
He went on to assert that these parties operate like privately owned companies, with leadership positions primarily held by family members or their close associates. PM Modi commented, “Both of these parties follow the same pattern. The party is essentially a family affair, run by the family, for the family. They are essentially turning democracy into a family dynasty. Their party functions like a private company, where the president, CEO, director, treasurer, general manager, chief manager, and manager are all from the same family.” He acknowledged that they do have some outsiders in support roles.
Prime Minister Modi’s visit to the state was to inaugurate projects worth Rs 13,500 crore in crucial sectors such as transportation, energy, and higher education. After laying the foundation stones for these projects, he held a roadshow in Mahabubnagar, where enthusiastic Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) supporters lined the streets, cheering and showering him with flower petals.
During his address, PM Modi highlighted the significance of the projects, emphasizing their potential to propel Telangana toward greater development and generate employment opportunities for the state’s youth. He also noted the substantial turnout of people, interpreting it as a sign of Telangana’s desire for a BJP-led government.
He remarked, “In recent years, the people of Telangana have shown their support for the BJP in Lok Sabha, Vidhan Sabha, and municipal elections. The massive gathering here is evidence that Telangana seeks change—transparent and corruption-free governance, not empty promises. Telangana now desires a BJP government.”
PM Modi accused the K Chandrasekhar Rao-led BRS government of corruption, particularly in schemes meant for farmers, and criticized the failure to fulfill promises of agricultural loan waivers, leading to farmer distress. He mentioned the revival of the Ramagundam Fertilizer plant as an example of the central government’s efforts to support farmers in Telangana despite the absence of a state government.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister criticized the KCR government for delaying land allocation for a Central Tribal University planned by the Central government for five years. He emphasized that this showed a lack of concern for tribal interests.
In addition to his political remarks, PM Modi announced the establishment of a National Turmeric Board, recognizing the growing global demand for turmeric and its significance in the agricultural sector of Telangana.
He acknowledged India’s role as a major turmeric producer, consumer, and exporter, with particular emphasis on production in Telangana’s Nizamabad, Nirmal, and Jagtial districts. The National Turmeric Board is expected to assist farmers in marketing their turmeric produce and addressing their needs, much like similar boards for other agricultural products such as tea, coffee, spices, jute, and coconut.
