PM Modi Mourns Ghazal Maestro Pankaj Udhas’s Passing

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences on Monday following the passing of renowned Ghazal maestro Pankaj Udhas. Sharing a series of nostalgic photographs with the late singer on X, PM Modi reminisced about Udhas’s profound musical legacy, stating, “We deeply mourn the loss of Pankaj Udhas Ji, whose resonant voice conveyed myriad emotions and whose Ghazals spoke directly to the soul. He was a stalwart of Indian music, his melodies transcending generations. I fondly recall our numerous interactions over the years. His absence leaves an irreplaceable void in the musical realm. Padma Shri awardee Pankaj Udhas passed away on Monday at the age of 72 after a prolonged illness. His daughter Nayaab shared the heartbreaking news on Instagram, stating, “It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Padmashri Pankaj Udhas on 26th February 2024 after a prolonged illness.”

Pankaj Udhas’s timeless Ghazals, including ‘Chitthi Aayi Hai’, ‘Chandani Raat Mein’, ‘Na Kajre Ki Dhaar’, ‘Aur Ahista Kijiye Baatein’, ‘Ek Taraf Uska Ghar’, and ‘Thodi Thodi Piya Karo’, continue to resonate with audiences across the globe.

The music industry was plunged into shock and sorrow by the news of the singer’s demise.
