During their bilateral conversation on Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised visiting Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida for inviting him to the G7 Summit in Tokyo later this year. PM Modi met his Japanese counterpart at Hyderabad House for bilateral delegation-level discussions.
“Today Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida invited me to the G7 Leaders’ Summit which will be held in Hiroshima in May. I thank him for this,” PM Modi said in a joint press statement after the meeting.
“I welcome Japanese PM Fumio Kishida to India. In the last year, PM Fumio Kishida and I have met several times and every time I’ve felt his positivity and commitment to the India-Japan bilateral relationship. His today’s visit will be beneficial to maintain this momentum,” PM Modi said.
Prime Minister Modi expressed his delight at the prospect of welcoming his Japanese colleague again in September for the G20 Summit. While India is the G20 chair this year and Japan is the current G7 chair, PM Modi stated, “Today’s meeting is a great opportunity to work together keeping the self-goals of both nations in mind.”
PM Modi stated after the meetings that the summit intends to give the global South a voice and improve the India-Japan partnership. PM Modi stated that he discussed India’s G20 aims and aspirations with his Japanese counterpart.
“I have spoken to him regarding India’s G20 priorities in detail. Our main priority is to give voice to the needs of the global south,” PM Modi said. He said that the culture that believes in “Vasudhaiv Kutumbakam” believes in taking everyone along.
PM Modi went on to say that India-special Japan’s strategic and global alliance is founded on shared democratic ideals and the rule of law on a global scale.
“Strengthening this partnership is not only beneficial to India and Japan, but Indo-Pacific will also have peace, progress and the stability would be boosted,” Prime Minister Modi added.
PM Modi stated that the two leaders discussed the progress achieved in bilateral relations and agreed that it is an excellent chance to collaborate on shared interests and goals.
The Prime Minister stated that the India-Japan Competitiveness Partnership, which was launched in 2019, has concentrated on logistics, food processing challenges, and MSMEs. He expressed optimism that the two nations’ series of meetings and consultations would continue and that India-Japan relations would reach new heights.
“Today, we expressed satisfaction with the activities of this partnership. We are moving forward on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail project,” PM Modi said.
‘Connecting the Mountains with Mount Fuji’ is the subject of India and Japan’s Tourism Exchange Year 2023.
PM Modi stated that the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership is founded on shared democratic ideals and worldwide respect for the rule of law. PM Modi stated that strengthening the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership is crucial for both India and Japan as partners because it fosters peace, prosperity, and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
Both sides addressed regional and global topics of mutual concern during the meeting, including the significance of the India-Japan cooperation in promoting peace, prosperity, and stability in the Indo-Pacific region. The agenda was broad, with an emphasis on cooperation in economics and trade, environment and energy, defence and security, and skill development.
Kishida, who arrived in the national capital early this morning on a two-day official visit, paid flower tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat. Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar met the Japanese Prime Minister at the Palam airport. This is Kishida’s second visit to the nation as Japan’s Prime Minister.
