Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to respond to the Motion of Thanks to the President’s Address in the Lok Sabha on Monday, marking a significant development in the ongoing Budget Session. President Droupadi Murmu had delivered the joint sitting of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on January 31, officially initiating the Budget Session.
In preparation for the parliamentary proceedings, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has issued a three-line whip to all its Members of Parliament (MPs) in the Lok Sabha, instructing their mandatory presence on the fourth day of the ongoing session.
The day’s agenda, as outlined in the List of Business, includes Lok Sabha MPs Ravneet Singh and Ramshiromani Verma presenting the minutes of the twelfth sitting of the Committee on Absence of Members from the sittings of the House held on December 14, 2023. Additionally, MPs PP Chaudhary and NK Premachandran will table the 28th report of the Committee on External Affairs, focusing on ‘Countering Global Terrorism at Regional and International Levels.’
Highlighting legislative matters, BJP MP Rajeev Chandrasekhar is slated to provide an update on the implementation status of recommendations from the 49th Report of the Standing Committee on Labour, Textiles, and Skill Development concerning the ‘Functioning of Directorate General of Training.’
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is scheduled to present a statement, in both Hindi and English, outlining the estimated receipts and expenditure of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir for the fiscal year 2024-25.
Simultaneously, in the Rajya Sabha, discussions on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s address are set to resume. MPs Ashok Kumar Mittal and Prakash Javadekar will present the Twenty-Eighth Report of the Department-Related Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs, emphasizing ‘Countering Global Terrorism at Regional and International Levels.’
Additionally, Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav is expected to introduce the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Amendment Bill, 2024, aiming to amend the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974.
This parliamentary session, likely the last before the anticipated Lok Sabha polls scheduled for April-May, spans eight sittings over a 10-day period, with a potential conclusion on February 9.
