PM Modi Extends Warm Welcome to World Leaders at G20 Venue, Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan

Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted the Presidents of Egypt, Argentina, and Nigeria with handshakes at Pragati Maidan during the G20 Summit. Presidents Abdel Fattah El-Sisi of Egypt, Alberto Fernández of Argentina, and Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Nigeria arrived at Bharat Mandapam for the summit.

PM Modi earlier arrived at Bharat Mandapam in Pragati Maidan, the G20 Summit’s venue in the national capital, where he received a warm welcome from External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.

India, amid divisions within the group over the Russia-Ukraine war, is hosting the G20 Summit scheduled for today and tomorrow under its Presidency. Global leaders, including US President Joe Biden, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Japan PM Fumio Kishida, Australia Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, arrived in the national capital yesterday.

As the G20 Summit at Bharat Mandapam in Pragati Maidan commenced, Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted heads of state with handshakes and hugs. Japanese PM Fumio Kishida, President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and President of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa were among those seen shaking hands with PM Modi.

Leaders such as President of South Korea Yoon Suk Yeol, President of the European Council Charles Michel, and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, among others, have also arrived at the G20 venue in the national capital.

The G20 Summit is attended by over 30 heads of state, top European Union officials, invited guest countries, and 14 international organization leaders.

The first session of the G20 Summit, titled ‘One Earth,’ focuses on accelerating climate action through increased mitigation and strengthening the global net-zero emissions agenda.

This year’s G20 Summit theme, “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” or “One Earth · One Family · One Future,” draws inspiration from the ancient Sanskrit text of the Maha Upanishad. It emphasizes the value of all life forms, including humans, animals, plants, and microorganisms, and their interconnectedness on Earth and in the wider universe.

This marks India’s first time hosting the G20 Summit. Participating countries include Nigeria, Argentina, Italy, the African Union (represented by Comoros), and South Africa, along with Bangladesh, the United Kingdom, Japan, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Egypt, Australia, the United States, Canada, China, the UAE, Brazil, Indonesia, Turkey, Spain, Germany, France, Mauritius, the European Union, and Singapore.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi warmly welcomed the leaders who arrived in Delhi for the G20 Summit, expressing confidence that this gathering of world leaders would chart a new course toward human-centric and inclusive development.
