In a significant stride towards economic development, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Surat today to inaugurate two major projects that are poised to redefine the city’s landscape. The projects include the Surat Diamond Bourse (SDB) and the new integrated terminal building of Surat Airport.
Billed as the world’s largest corporate workplace, the Surat Diamond Bourse is set to become the epicenter for international diamond and jewelry business. This global trading hub, both for rough and polished diamonds, is built on an expansive 35.54-acre plot at a cost of ₹3400 crore. With an impressive 67 lakh square feet of floor area, the SDB is expected to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the global diamond industry.
Simultaneously, the new integrated terminal building at Surat Airport, constructed at a cost of ₹353 crore, was also launched by Prime Minister Modi. This state-of-the-art facility is designed to manage 1,200 domestic and 600 international passengers hourly during peak hours, with provisions to scale up the capacity to 3,000 passengers. The enhanced capabilities of Surat Airport are expected to boost connectivity and contribute to the economic growth of the region.
Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Surat underscores the government’s commitment to fostering economic development and infrastructure growth. These projects are not only significant for Surat but also contribute to the broader vision of positioning India as a global player in the diamond and aviation sectors.
Following the successful launch of these major projects, Prime Minister Modi is set to embark on a two-day visit to his Lok Sabha constituency, Varanasi. There, he will unveil multiple development initiatives with a cumulative worth exceeding ₹19,150 crore. This series of projects further exemplifies the government’s dedication to propelling comprehensive development across the country.
