Scheduled from March 11 to 13, this visit marks a monumental step in the bilateral relations of the two nations, with President Murmu gracing the National Day celebrations of Mauritius as the Chief Guest.

The Rashtrapati Bhavan announced her departure with a note on the significance of this visit, highlighting it as a testament to the enduring friendship and cooperation between India and Mauritius. President Murmu’s participation in the National Day festivities not only honors the shared cultural and historical bonds but also underscores India’s support for Mauritius’ development and prosperity.

During her visit, President Murmu, alongside Mauritian Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, will inaugurate 14 India-assisted projects. These initiatives are a showcase of India’s commitment to Mauritius, spanning various sectors and demonstrating the multifaceted nature of the development partnership between the two countries.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has articulated that this state visit will usher in a “new milestone” in the bilateral relationship, reinforcing the strategic and people-to-people ties that have flourished over the years. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, emphasizing the significance of the President’s participation in the National Day celebrations.

Adding to the grandeur of the visit, a contingent of the Indian Navy, along with two ships of the Indian Navy’s First Training Squadron – INS Tir and CGS Sarathi, will participate in the National Day celebrations, reflecting the strong maritime cooperation between India and Mauritius.

President Murmu’s itinerary includes bilateral meetings with key Mauritian leaders, including the President of the Republic of Mauritius, Prithvirajsing Roopun, and Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth. These discussions aim to explore new avenues for collaboration and reinforce the bilateral institutional framework.

Moreover, President Murmu will engage with the vibrant Indian diaspora in Mauritius, addressing Mauritian youth, socio-cultural organizations, and community members, thereby highlighting the people-centric approach of India’s foreign policy.

Her visit will also be marked by homage to Mauritian leaders at the Pamplemousses Botanical Garden, and tours of significant historical and cultural sites such as the Aapravasi Ghat, the Intercontinental Slavery Museum, and the sacred Ganga Talao. These visits reflect the shared heritage and contribute to the cultural exchange that underpins the India-Mauritius relationship.

As President Murmu’s state visit unfolds, it is poised to open new chapters in the longstanding friendship between India and Mauritius, enhancing cooperation and mutual understanding for the years to come.
