At least two people died and many others were injured when the train hit passengers near Kaljariya railway crossing in Jamtara-Karmatand district on Wednesday.
Jamtara Deputy Chief Minister Director Shashi Bhushan Mehra confirmed that two bodies were found and said that the police, district administration and authorities responded quickly and tended to the injured.Jamtala District Officer (SDO) Anant Kumar explained that the deceased passenger got off near Kalajhariya railway crossing and was hit by another local train. “The train stopped near Karajhariya railway crossing and some passengers got off the train, but it was hit by another local train. Reports indicate that people died and two bodies were found during searches,” said SDO Kumar.
Kumar also announced plans to set up a hotline to help families of the injured get more information.
According to Kumar, the cause of the incident is still under investigation.
Jharkhand Health Minister Banna Gupta asked Jamtara Deputy Commissioner and Public Health Officer to cooperate in the rescue and provide proper treatment to the injured.
Reacting to the incident, Jharkhand Prime Minister Champai Soren expressed his sadness and said, “The train accident near Jamtalakajaria station was very painful. May the deceased rest in peace and find their families.” We are gaining strength in this difficult and sad time. Our government is participating in the rescue operation in the region.
