Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to journey to the Qatari capital of Doha on February 14th following the conclusion of his two-day trip to the United Arab Emirates. The announcement regarding Modi’s visit to Qatar was made a day subsequent to the Gulf nation’s release of eight former Indian naval personnel who had been incarcerated. Seven of these individuals returned to India on Monday morning.
Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra mentioned that Prime Minister Modi personally oversaw the developments pertaining to the case.
“We appreciate Qatar’s decision to release the Indian citizens,” he remarked.
The foreign secretary highlighted that Modi, along with Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar, will engage in extensive discussions aimed at bolstering bilateral relations.
The return of the Indians occurred 46 days after their death sentences, initially pronounced last October, were commuted to various prison terms.
The eight individuals purportedly faced charges of espionage, although neither Qatari authorities nor New Delhi publicly disclosed the specific allegations against them.
