Princess Kate Middleton, wife of Prince William and Princess of Wales bravely revealed in a heartfelt video message on Friday that she is undergoing chemotherapy for cancer. The announcement came after a period of speculation and concern surrounding her health, as she had been absent from public view since undergoing abdominal surgery in January.
In the video statement, Kate expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support and understanding during her recovery from surgery. She acknowledged the challenges her family had faced during this time and thanked her medical team for their care.

The princess disclosed that the cancer was not detected until after her surgery when tests revealed its presence. As a result, her medical team recommended a course of preventative chemotherapy, which she has now begun.
Throughout this ordeal, Kate and Prince William have prioritized their young family’s well-being, carefully managing the situation with their children, George, Charlotte, and Louis. Kate emphasized the importance of explaining the situation to her children in a manner appropriate for their understanding and reassuring them of her recovery.
In her message, Kate expressed determination to focus on her healing, both physically and emotionally, with the support of her husband and the kindness of well-wishers. She requested privacy for her family during this challenging time as she undergoes treatment.
The princess added: “The surgery was successful. However, tests after the operation found cancer had been present. My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of that treatment.”
Kate continued “William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family.” As you can imagine, this has taken time. It has taken me time to recover from major surgery to start my treatment. But, most importantly, it has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte, and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be ok.”
The news of Kate’s diagnosis has undoubtedly shaken the British monarchy, coming amidst King Charles III’s battle with cancer, which was announced earlier in the year. Buckingham Palace confirmed that King Charles is providing support to Kate, having undergone treatment at the same London hospital.
Following the announcement, messages of support flooded in from around the world. Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, extended their wishes for Kate’s health and urged privacy for the family. British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak praised Kate’s bravery and resilience in the face of intense scrutiny, while opposition leader Keir Starmer offered his best wishes.
Even the White House expressed sadness at the news, emphasizing the importance of respecting the royal family’s privacy during such a difficult time.
Kate’s revelation brings to light the challenges faced by individuals battling cancer, even those in positions of prominence. Her courage in sharing her diagnosis serves as a reminder of the importance of support, understanding, and privacy during times of personal struggle.
As the princess embarks on her journey of treatment and recovery, she does so with the love and support of her family, as well as the thoughts and prayers of people around the world.
