Authorities in Nagpur have launched an investigation into a disturbing case involving the alleged rape and extortion of a 49-year-old woman by a 30-year-old man from Punjab. According to police reports released on Monday, the accused first made contact with the woman via social media back in 2022.
Detailing the events leading up to the incident, officials stated that the accused travelled to Nagpur to meet the woman in person. Upon his visit to her residence, he reportedly offered her a drink containing sedatives. Subsequently, as the woman fell unconscious, he purportedly committed the heinous act of rape, recording the assault on his mobile phone.
Exploiting the recorded footage, the accused then resorted to blackmail, threatening to disseminate the incriminating video unless the victim complied with his demands. In fear and desperation, the woman allegedly paid a sum of ₹7 lakh to the perpetrator.
Following the victim’s report, authorities have registered a case against the accused under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code about rape and extortion. However, as of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the case.
The incident underscores the dangers of online interactions and serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and caution when engaging with individuals through social media platforms. Authorities urge individuals to remain vigilant and report any suspicious or unlawful activities to law enforcement agencies promptly.
As the investigation unfolds, law enforcement agencies are committed to ensuring that justice is served for the victim, and efforts are underway to apprehend the perpetrator responsible for this reprehensible crime.
