Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the Congress, poked fun at the BJP in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday by claiming that the topic of his address in support of the motion of no-confidence was not the Adani issue.
Gandhi, who spoke first at the resumption of the no-confidence motion debate on Wednesday, also made a subtly critical comment about Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Gandhi made reference to claims made by the Congress against the government in connection with the Adani-Hindenburg dispute in his first address following his reinstatement as a House member after being removed due to his conviction in a defamation case by a Gujarat court that resulted in his disqualification.
“Speaker Sir, first of all, let me express my gratitude for restoring my membership in the Lok Sabha as an MP. The previous time I spoke, I may have upset you by focusing on Adani; perhaps your senior leader was upset. You might have been affected by that agony as well. You have my apology for that. However, I told the truth. My speech today is not about Adani, therefore my BJP friends don’t need to worry. said Gandhi.
The Congress leader also launched a ferocious attack on the administration on the situation in Manipur.
The conviction of Rahul Gandhi in the criminal defamation case involving the Modi surname statement was last week put on hold by the Supreme Court. He was re-elected to the Lok Sabha on Monday.
