The Ministry of Railways announced on Friday that it is poised to achieve record-breaking performance in freight loading, revenue collection, and track laying for the fiscal year 2023-24.
According to a press release, the ministry stated, “Based on initial data, Indian Railways (IR) has surpassed an originating freight loading of 1500 MT on March 15th, 2024. Previously, IR had attained its highest-ever freight loading of 1512 MT during the FY 2022-23.
The ministry further reported, “As of the current date, the total revenue of Indian Railways for FY 2023-24 amounts to Rs 2.40 lakh crore. On the same date last year, the total revenue stood at Rs 2.23 lakh crore, marking an increase of Rs 17,000 crore. The total expenditure of Indian Railways for FY 2023-24 is Rs 2.26 lakh crore.”
The ministry also highlighted passenger numbers, stating that during FY 2023-24, the total number of passengers reached 648 crore, an increase of 52 crore compared to the corresponding period last year. Last year, the total number of passengers traveled was 596 crore.
Regarding track laying, the ministry stated that Indian Railways has laid 5,100 km of new tracks in the current fiscal year. “The average daily track laid in this fiscal year exceeds 14 km,” it added.
