Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has given the green light to a proposal aimed at enlarging the National Cadet Corps (NCC) by adding three lakh cadet positions. This move is in response to the growing demand for NCC enrollment from educational institutions across the nation.
Starting with just 20,000 cadets in 1948, the NCC will now accommodate a sanctioned strength of 20 lakh cadets, solidifying its position as the world’s largest uniformed youth organization. With NCC being included as an elective subject under the National Education Policy 2020, this expansion aligns with the aspirations of youth to actively participate as future leaders of the country.
The wide-ranging impact of this expansion will ensure a fair allocation of vacancies across all States and Union Territories, consequently reducing the waiting list of institutions seeking NCC affiliation. The expansion blueprint includes the establishment of four new Group Headquarters and the addition of two new NCC units.
A significant aspect of the expansion proposal involves the recruitment of ex-servicemen as NCC instructors, tapping into their expertise and extensive experience. This initiative aims to deliver high-quality training to NCC cadets while simultaneously creating employment opportunities for veterans.
This expansion reflects a commitment to nurturing future leaders who embody traits such as discipline, leadership, and service. The NCC’s objective is to foster a conducive environment where youth actively contribute to nation-building efforts.
