Rajya Sabha adjourned amid opposition uproar over Manipur issue

The Rajya Sabha was adjourned till noon on Monday, with the opposition parties creating a ruckus over the ethnic violence in Manipur.

Sanjay Singh, an AAP member of Parliament, was also expelled from the Rajya Sabha for the remainder of the monsoon session of Parliament for frequently disobeying instructions. The motion for Sanjay Singh’s suspension was raised by Piyush Goyal, Union Minister and Leader of the House. Chairman Jagdeep Dhankar says that he was suspended for repeatedly violating the directive of the Chair. He has been suspended for the remainder of the Monsoon session during the Opposition’s protest in the house over the Manipur issue.

On Monday, as the third day of the Parliament’s Monsoon session got underway, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi asked the opposition parties to participate in organized and productive debates for the benefit of the chamber. He hits out at the government, saying that he doesn’t understand the opposition parties’ strategy for creating a ruckus in Parliament over the Manipur issue. He said, “We ask the opposition to participate in organized and fruitful discussions in the parliament. Why are they running away from conversations”?

In a counter to the opposition parties’ attack, BJP also staged a protest in front of the Gandhi statue at the Parliament premises over atrocities against women in Rajasthan and West Bengal as well as other states.

Protest demanding PM’s statement on Manipur in Rajya Sabha & Lok Sabha

Meanwhile, the opposition parties’ newly constructed alliance, I.N.D.I.A., staged a protest in Parliament’s premises today, demanding the PM’s statement on Manipur in the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha. On the other hand, the Central Government has been stating that they are prepared for the Parliamentary discussion on Manipur since the start of the monsoon session.

On July 20, the Prime Minister declared that no one would be spared in relation to the viral video while addressing the nation prior to the start of the Parliament Monsoon session.
