Renowned industrialist Ratan Tata hailed the initiative to establish semiconductor manufacturing in Assam, which is set to bolster the state’s global recognition. Tata Sons, with a substantial investment of Rs 27,000 crore, is spearheading the construction of a semiconductor plant in Jagiroad.
Tata expressed optimism, stating that these investments would not only revolutionize cancer care treatment in Assam but also position the state as a key player in advanced semiconductor technology. He commended Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for his unwavering support and forward-thinking approach, which paved the way for this significant development.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw affirmed the government’s commitment to achieving self-reliance in semiconductor manufacturing, announcing plans for the first domestically produced chip by December 2024. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dedication to bolstering electronics manufacturing in India was highlighted, with the recent foundation stone laying ceremonies for semiconductor facilities in Gujarat and Assam, collectively worth Rs 1.25 lakh crore.
Tata Semiconductor Assembly and Test Pvt Ltd (“TSAT”) is set to establish a cutting-edge semiconductor unit in Morigaon, Assam, capable of producing 48 million chips per day across various sectors, including automotive, electric vehicles, consumer electronics, telecom, and mobile phones.
