Apple is reportedly in the midst of deliberating the design of its much-anticipated foldable device, with possibilities ranging from a laptop to a tablet format.
Sources within the Taiwan-based supply chain have revealed that Apple has been actively involved in the development of a foldable device larger than a smartphone for approximately five years. This device is expected to take the form of either a notebook or a tablet. However, a final decision regarding the device’s design is anticipated from Apple prior to the commencement of the manufacturing process.
Engineers from Apple’s Vision Pro team are said to be spearheading the development of various components for the foldable device, including the hinge mechanism. Despite earlier rumors suggesting a suspension in the development of a foldable screen device, recent reports indicate that Apple’s efforts in this domain remain ongoing. Moreover, it has been revealed that multiple foldable devices are currently in progress, with different departments within Apple dedicated to each product.
Should Apple move forward with the release of a foldable device in the foreseeable future, it will likely enter into direct competition with existing offerings from prominent tech giants such as Samsung, Oppo, Google, Huawei, and Xiaomi. However, any potential launch before the year 2025 seems unlikely based on current speculations.
Contradicting previous claims of a pause in foldable device development due to unsatisfactory screen tests, recent reports affirm that Apple’s endeavors in this sector remain steadfast. Nonetheless, there have been no official announcements from Apple regarding specific plans for the introduction of a foldable smartphone in the near future.
